Google Ambush Review Part 2- Keyword Researcher

Once a suitable product is selected, most novice Clickbank affiliates (and I’ve been guilty of this too) go straight into producing a site to promote the product. However, most experts agree that further background research is needed before investing time and effort into making a site. Google Ambush’s Keyword Researcher is intended to help people who don’t necessarily know everything about Google’s complicated search engine find what exactly they should be focusing their attention on.

The first step in this process is generating a keyword list. Keywords can be searched for through either Google, Ask.com, or both, and once a list has been generated further restrictions can be added, such as excluding certain phrases, limits on the number of words, and other tweaks to the original list. However, there are a lot of keyword generators out there with these basic functions…

So, what sets the Keyword Researcher apart from other keyword generators?

Well, the Keyword Researcher provided by Google Ambush has a number of interesting and unusual features that help it rise above the average keyword tool. After a basic keyword list has been created, more in depth information can be examined. The keywords provided can be ranked according to a number of criteria, such as average cost per click, popularity, and most common month the keyword is searched for. Through this information, a savvy web designer can quickly determine what sort of phrases they particularly want to push, not only in the ads that they run on Google, but also within their sales text.

This is where a lot of novices make a big mistake – by jumping right into writing a sales pitch, beginner affiliates forget that just writing compelling copy isn’t enough to sell a product. There has to be a market of people who are actively searching for a product like the one you’re trying to sell. By looking at the data provided by the Keyword Researcher, skilled and novice affiliates alike can quickly determine what seasons they can expect to see the most revenue from the affiliate they have in mind, what sort of competition is already trying to advertise with the most popular terms, and about how much they can expect to pay for ads within the field they’re interested in getting into.

And that’s all great stuff. But the Keyword Researcher doesn’t stop there.

In addition to all this data crunching, the Keyword Researcher also contains a component known as the Spy Tool, which lets you look at ads that are running now and even ads that have run in the recent past. Not only does this let Clickbank advertisers get a feel for the competition for the product they’re interested in promoting, but it can also provide other potential products that might have affiliate programs for individuals looking to branch out from a pure Clickbank based strategy. It’s generally a lot easier to produce winning sales copy once the writer becomes familiar with a niche, so the leads potentially provided by the Spy Tool can not only give affiliates an insight into their competition, but can also be viewed as potential revenue streams some time down the line.

Admittedly, there are a few problems with the Keyword Researcher.

Though it is nice to see keywords from a search engine other than Google, information provided on keywords generated by Ask.com is sadly limited compared to Google. Unless you think that you’re especially likely to advertise exclusively through Ask.com, there really isn’t ever any compelling reason to use that particular option when generating keyword lists. Also, though the keyword generator search terms indicate you can create lists of up to 700 keywords, at the moment the limit appears to actually be 200. Likewise, the Positioning statistic in the keyword lists appears to be nonfunctional at the time of this writing, as every keyword ends up being evaluated as within the 1-3 positioning bracket.

So… does it help or not?

It definitely does. Despite the minor flaws discussed above, the Keyword Researcher is a great tool for anyone looking to make money on affiliate sales. There isn’t really too compelling a reason to be searching for more than 200 keywords or so, and while better Ask.com statistics would be appreciated, they’re hardly necessary. It seems likely these issues will be addressed in the future, as even while I’ve been writing these reviews Google Ambush has seen several upgrades both in their tools and the documentation provided with them. In the end, the Keyword Researcher is clearly more than just a simple keyword generator, and as such it is easily an asset to anyone interested in affiliate sales of Clickbank products.
